When You Lock Horns

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

With another poster.

I think there is an 'elephant in the room' issue here, which has been simmering beneath the surface across a number of recent threads.

Obviously this is not something unique to WW, and is probably somewhat inevitable on sites like this.

I have hesitated to post, knowing the thread itself may well attract conflict, but my intention is to raise the question of 'IT IS HOW YOU DEAL WITH IT, moving forward'!

There is a distinction between members having a spat and then moving on, versus people holding a grudge which they are reluctant to let go of.

I guess the site can cope with the latter, but these ongoing feuds are accounting for increasing proportions of the content.

(Complaints of ruining threads abound)

This is what I find that I am saying to myself:

It would be dishonourable not to stay and fight my corner, but to quit , when faced with hostility from another poster: I hope that I am made of stouter stuff than that. On the other hand, there is always an opportunity cost: Why am I wading through this crap when I could be watching some paint drying?

Well, I have said my two penneth worth, and will say no more. Take this up and run with it, or turn your backs upon it: obviously, the choice is yours.

I suppose the ignore button is an easy cop out.
Personally I would not use it myself, I would prefer to "literally" ignore as I think the ignore button is malfunctional on here. At least on some members computers, not all I would imagine. They claim to have them on ignore and at every available, given opportunity, they ostentatiously refer to the "alleged" ignored

Ena Have you looked on the sports section It's like a warzone on there. Two of them won't let go. It's like being in a kids playground with those two. One of them apparantley has been banned 5 times but keeps coming back under other names.

I don't give a stuff if folk call me, or are nasty to me, it is water off a ducks back, it is only a bloody forum, usernames in an electronic device, I mean what does it matter ?

That Cheshire Cat is always having a go at me

The squabbles are part of the charm of the place, and just think how much you missed it, when it went down for a few days.

Ena like I have said just ignore the bad posters but do not put them on ignoreIt gets under their skin if they know you can see what tripe they are posting and you do not react to it. TTS as got it in one 90% of the members don't know each other so in does not matter what they post.

Sorry

I have obviously failed to make myself clear.

No problem at all with what others say, or aim at me.

Problem with the site becoming an irrelevance to all who are not engaged in this feuding.

Not half as much as the treatment you dish out to me
In all honesty, Tommy, I think you are half alright.
Only half, mind

Ena there are 7758 members of WW a few thousand never posted. A few thousand more posted once or twice and others stopped posting years ago Some members were made inactive whether by choice or kicked off. So that leaves a few who are on site again whether good or bad on a regular basis. There are again one or two members who sit on the side-lines and may post . Chances of getting some good posters back is minimal unfortunately

A long time ago I enlikened WW as a pub you frequent , In this pub there are people you like and people you dont , The ones in my ignored box are the children who run about screaming and causing disturbance, As an adult I am coming in for intelligent conversation and debates about current affairs and these children spoil my evening so, I go supping elswhere and blame the pub owner ( admin) for not controlling them,

I can only speak for myself but Ena has never intentionally said anything to provoke me so why should I say anything to provoke him.

That’s how it works in here isn’t it?

Give as good as you get, live by the sword, and eye for an eye etc etc.
